Session 11: Intentional Blessing - Speaking Life Into Your Children
Session 11: Intentional Blessing - Speaking Life Into Your Children
Session 11 teaching is on intentional blessing and reveals a profound truth: blessing our children is not just about speaking nice words, but about calling them up into their God-given identity. We discover that God's first blessing to humanity was the command to be fruitful and multiply, making parenthood itself a divine blessing. The session challenges us to examine whether we truly understand what it means to bless our children beyond simply providing for their physical needs. Drawing from Matthew 3:16, we see how God the Father blessed Jesus at His baptism, declaring 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.' This becomes our model for blessing our own children—affirming their identity, speaking life over them, and pointing them toward who they are becoming in Christ. The sobering reality is that Proverbs 18:21 reminds us the tongue has the power of life and death. If we're not intentionally blessing our children with life-giving words rooted in Scripture, we may inadvertently be cursing them through criticism, comparison, or silence. Our children face countless voices speaking into their lives, including their own developing self-talk. They need to hear from us, repeatedly and consistently, who they are in Christ. The teaching emphasizes that blessings aren't one-time events but rhythms we establish—bedtime prayers, morning send-offs, scripture spoken over them until it becomes embedded in their souls. When we bless our children with God's truth about their identity, we're planting seeds that the Holy Spirit will grow as He draws them to Himself.
