Session 5: Keeping the Gospel in Your Home
Session 5: Keeping the Gospel in Your Home
Session 5 centers on the transformative practice of bringing the gospel into our homes through intentional, everyday moments with our children. Drawing deeply from Deuteronomy 6, we're reminded that the Shema—the call to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength—isn't just ancient liturgy but a living blueprint for parenting. The Hebrew concept of 'shama' teaches us that hearing and doing are inseparable; we haven't truly heard God's word if our actions don't change. This same principle applies to our children, who are watching us with remarkable discernment. They see the consistency—or inconsistency—between who we are at church and who we are when the car doors close. The beautiful truth is that God wants a relationship with our children even more than we do, and He's chosen us as their guides. We're called to teach them 'as we sit, as we walk, as we lie down, and as we rise'—not through perfect performance but through authentic faith lived out in the mundane moments. Whether we're translating our four-year-old's excited chatter about Disney World or navigating unexpected questions about circumcision, every moment becomes an opportunity to point our children toward Jesus. The gospel isn't an abstract concept but something our kids witness in how we apologize, forgive, show grace to difficult people, and depend on God's help daily.
