God Chooses David - Study of 1 Samuel: WEEK 6

In Week 6, we talk about the profound moment when God chooses David as the future king of Israel. This story reminds us that God sees beyond outward appearances, looking straight into our hearts. We're challenged to consider how often we, like Samuel or Jesse, overlook those who don't fit our expectations. The narrative of David's anointing serves as a poignant reminder that God often selects the unexpected, the overlooked, and even the outcast for His grand purposes. This message encourages us to reflect on our own lives - are we limiting ourselves or others based on superficial judgments? Are we open to God's unexpected choices and callings in our lives? As we contemplate David's journey from shepherd to king, we're invited to trust in God's wisdom and timing, even when His choices seem unconventional by worldly standards.

Key Points:

•God chooses people based on their heart, not outward appearances

•God prepares and equips those He chooses for His purposes

•Taking a stand for God is sometimes necessary and glorifies Him

•Victory is promised to those who trust in God, even if it doesn't look like we expect

•Our battles and stands can be opportunities to make God's name famous

Scripture Reference:

1 Samuel 16-17 (David's anointing and battle with Goliath)

In what ways can we discern between situations where we need to take action versus times when we should wait on God's timing?

How has God equipped you through past experiences to face current challenges, similar to how David's experiences with lions and bears prepared him for Goliath?

What 'Goliaths' in your life have you been avoiding that God might be calling you to confront?

How can we cultivate a heart that sees beyond outward appearances and focuses on what God values, as He did when choosing David?

In what ways might God be using your current struggles or challenges to prepare you for future purposes, as He did with David?

How can we maintain confidence in God's promises even when victory doesn't look the way we expect it to?

What does it mean practically to fight battles for God's glory rather than our own fame or benefit?

How might God be calling you to be bold in your faith, even when others (like Saul or David's brothers) doubt or discourage you?

In what areas of your life do you need to shift from seeing obstacles as insurmountable to viewing them through God's perspective of promised victory?
