SEEKING GOD

Promises: a 40-day devotional

INTRODUCTION

God’s Promise:
I will fulfill all I have promised!

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
- 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT)

Our God is a promise-making and promise- keeping God! Throughout the Bible God has made a multitude of promises which have all been fulfilled in Jesus. So why are so many believers not seeing all these promises fulfilled in their own lives? In this promise we find the answer.

The problem is not in God’s promise-making, nor in God’s promise-keeping, but in our promise-receiving. This passage tells us that God’s promises are unlocked when the believer meets three conditions.

The first condition deals with how. “...our ‘Amen’” is our faith response to God’s promises. Our faith response must be a hearty “Yes,” or “Let this be so,” to God’s promise. The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

The second condition deals with where. “...And through Christ...” Where are we placing our faith? Is our faith in our faith or in the finished and completed victory of Jesus? Many believers miss out on God’s promises because they are placing their faith in their prayer, or their personal passion, or maybe in someone other than Jesus.

The third condition deals with why. “...ascends to God for his glory.” Why are we wanting God to fulfill His promise? Many people miss so many of God’s promises because they are seeking them only for personal benefits or ambitions. God does not cater to our self-glorification.

When our how, where, and why comes into alignment with God’s promises we can rest assured that the promises fulfilled through Jesus will be received by His people.

I will enter God’s promises, fulfilled through Jesus, all for God’s glory!
