SEEKING GOD

Promises: a 40-day devotional

DAY FIFTEEN

God’s Promise:
I will display My awesome power
in and through you.

For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power. - 1 Corinthians 4:20 (NLT)

Talk is cheap. Cliché as that may be, Paul makes it very clear that God’s Kingdom does not consist of empty speech, worldly eloquence, or the wisdom of man. There are talk-the-talk believers and there are walk-the-walk believers. The difference is evidenced through the walk, not the mouth.

God desires to display His power through His children. We received that power through the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. Once received, we must learn to rely on and release the Spirit’s power. As we rely on the Spirit’s power, we live in accordance with God’s desires. As we release the Spirit’s power, we usher in God’s Kingdom.

The Christian life cannot be lived in our own strength. It is only lived through the filling, leading, and empowering of the Holy Spirit. We must position ourselves - emptied, humbled, and surrendered - to be filled and used by God. So ask yourself: “Am I a walk- the-walk or a talk-the-talk follower of Jesus?”

Action Step:
I will live in a way that demonstrates God’s power working in and through me.
