SEEKING GOD

Promises: a 40-day devotional

DAY THIRTEEN

God’s Promise:
I will be with you.

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Perhaps, you have been tasked by God to do something so daring and daunting that you can’t even begin to act on His command. Often, how we lead spiritually is governed by our own strength and courage. When we look to ourselves as the source of power, we will always lose focus, determination, and blessing.

In this promise, Joshua has been given the active leadership position over the people of Israel. The first thing the Lord commands Joshua to do is to lead His people to enter the Promised Land. If this is not already momentous enough, the Lord commands him to be strong and courageous while leading God’s people. Rather than giving Joshua this task and leaving him on his own, the Lord promises that He would be WITH Joshua wherever he went.

Praise the Lord! He is so gracious to journey with us when we follow His commands. God is not distant when we walk in the promises He lays before us. He will not leave us on our own but give us the strength and courage to fulfill whatever He calls us to accomplish. Take a moment today to rest in God’s presence and ask the Lord for His strength and His peace!

Action Step:
I will find my strength in God’s presence, knowing He is always with me.
