SEEKING GOD

Promises: a 40-day devotional

DAY TWELVE

God’s Promise:
I will be your firm foundation.

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. - Matthew 7:24-25 (ESV)

A good foundation is critical for building a house that will withstand the elements over time. In fact, a foundation goes basically unnoticed until the storms test its construction. In a similar way, the difficulties of life test the certainly of our foundations.

Throughout our lives, everyone experiences the rain of ridicule, the floods of failure, and the winds of change. As we navigate life, Jesus directs us on how to withstand the shifting culture and religious trends.

In this promise, God is giving more than a lesson in architecture and contracting. He is laying out a blueprint for how we are to build our lives. He is also making a distinction between Himself and any other faulty foundation for life.

We will all encounter the difficulties of life. It is unavoidable. However, Jesus promises Himself as the foundation for those who hear His words and obey them. Today, let us construct everything we do on Him and be doers of His commands!

Action Step:
I will build my life on Christ by hearing and doing what God says.
