Serve with Kids Ministry

“And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on My behalf is welcoming Me.” Matthew 18:5

Kids Ministry: Special Needs Buddy

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Commit 1.5 hours on Sunday mornings.

•Actively greet your buddy and his/her parents with a smile and a word of encouragement during drop off.

•Prayerfully prepare your heart and mind to serve; ask the Lord to fill you with His grace and compassion for every situation. Each buddy will have different roles based on the child’s needs; help kids participate in developmentally appropriate activities and Bible lessons using the provided curriculum to help them connect with God and their peers.

•Regularly communicate with the Kids Ministry Director to suggest ideas to keep supporting the buddy’s needs, to encourage the buddy’s family, and to more strategically teach their buddy truth from God’s Word at their appropriate age and stage.

•Share positive experiences with parents when they pick their child up; if a behavior problem is consistently distracting others from learning or creating an unsafe environment, invite a coordinator or Kids Ministry staff into the situation to talk with the parents.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS:

•Worship. Regularly attend and actively engage in our church-wide worship services, and commit to grow as a Christian in all facets of life.

•Prepare in prayer.  Pray for God’s heart for people every time you serve.  Ask God how you can put someone else at ease, for the Lord to use you today, and how you can most authentically demonstrate His love.

•Serve when scheduled. Let Kids Ministry staff know in advance if you are going to be out.

•Be on time. Consistently arrive at your station at least 15 minutes before the beginning of each service.

•Dress appropriately. Dress in a manner that would honor Christ and not distract others or cause them to stumble. Crossgates Kids shirts are available for purchase through the Kids Ministry staff.

•Serve with passion, commitment, and excellence. Remember that you represent Jesus Christ to our kids and families. Conduct yourself worthy of His calling on your life.

•Communicate. If you need a break, feel burnt out, or are just going through a busy season, let us know! We’d love to pray with you and for you in any way we can.

•Handle distractions and disturbances by being alert to any unusual behavior or activity. If there is a medical emergency or something alarming, notify a security team member nearby.
