School of Worship Arts – Fall Semester 2017

The School of Worship Arts (SWA) is a ministry of Crossgates Baptist Church.  The School offers private and group lessons taught by qualified Christian instructors in many areas of the worship arts.

It is our goal to enhance the development of artistic skills that they may be used to honor and glorify our Lord, Jesus Christ.

We would love to talk with you about becoming a part of SWA.


FALL SEMESTER 2017

August 21 – November 30 (14 lessons)

 

Registration Fee: One-time annual administrative fee of $30 per student for the first student registered and $15 per student for each additional for the August-July school year.
 

Private Lessons:  Guitar, Piano, & Drums

Weekly 30-minute lessons will be selected during the registration process (private lessons are based upon day and time availability of the instructors.  Private lesson day/times are available on a first come – first served basis)

  • Guitar(1st grade through adult) – Joe Tatum, instructor
  • Piano(1st grade through adult) – Laura Callahan, Gloria Townsend, Marc Ridgeway, Carol Swofford, instructors
  • Drums (Age 10 through adult) – Cliff Hellums, instructor

 

Tuition for private lessons is $280.00/semester or $70.00/monthly

All monthly tuition is due before the August 21 start date and the 5th of each following month. 
Unpaid lessons will not be given.

Returned Check Fee: A $30 returned check fee will be applied for returned checks.

Cancellations: Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable unless we cannot fulfill your request.  Lessons are taught by semesters.  Upon registration, the student is committing to one complete term of 14 lessons.

Student Attendance Policy: If a student must be absent, we request at least a 24-hour notice by contacting the instructor.  Instructors will make their phone number available to students for notification.  An instructor is not responsible for a make-up lesson without a 24-hour notification.  If the instructor is absent, a make-up lesson will be scheduled.  Make-up lessons must be taught within one week following the end of the term. If student is under the age of 18, instructors will make their contact number available to the parent or legal guardian.


Group Lessons:  Art, Ballet & Dance

  • 1 Class per Week: Pre-Ballet, Ballet 1, Adult Ballet, Ensemble, Jazz, Contemporary, Composition/Choreography, Advanced Ballet, & Art
  • 2 classes per Week: Ballet 2
  • 3 Classes Per Week: Ballet3/4


Pre-Ballet: For ages 4-6. Students will learn basic movement and get a foundation for ballet technique. Emphasis is on movement and enjoying ballet. Students will spend up to two years in this level.

Ballet 1: For ages 7-8. Students will build upon the foundation laid in pre-ballet and are introduced to parts of formal ballet training such as barre work.

Ballet 2: For ages 9-11. Formal training begins this year with emphasis on strength building and stamina. They are preparing for pointe. Students will spend up to two years in this level.

Ballet 3/4: For ages 12+. Our most advanced students, instructor will inform student when it is appropriate to purchase pointe shoes. Formal training is continued with emphasis on artistry and performance quality.

Ensemble: Students in Ballet 3/ 4 are invited to audition for Crossgates Worship Ensemble. Students will receive additional performance and ministry opportunities as well as discipleship. In this ensemble students will learn how to use dance as a ministry and an outlet for worship.

 Jazz: For ages 8-11. Students will learn jazz technique and movement. No previous dance experience required.

Contemporary: For ages 12+ Students will learn different styles of contemporary to build upon their ballet foundation.

Composition/Choreography: For Students in Ballet 2 and above. Dancers will become comfortable with improvisation and create choreography of their own to be performed at the end of the year.

Adult Ballet: For adults looking for a fun way to stay in shape and begin lessons in Ballet. No dance experience required. No performance at the end of the school year.

Advanced Ballet:  Informal class for former ballet dancers at the professional level. Tuition covers ten lessons in the fourteen week semester. No performance at the end of the school year.

Art – Acrylic Painting
: Group lessons in acrylic painting for ages 15 through Adult.  This class will be on Monday evenings from 6 until 8 pm from August 21 – October 9.


Tuition for group lessons:

1 class per week        $140.00/semester or $35.00/month
2 classes/week          $200.00/semester or $50.00/week
3 classes/week          $260.00/semester or $65.00/week

We offer an early bird discount for semester tuition that is paid in full before August 20, 2017.
